Insurance Adjusters, Examiners, & Investigators
They investigate, analyze, and determine the extent of insurance company's liability concerning personal, casualty, or property loss or damages, and attempt to effect settlement with claimants. Correspond with or interview medical specialists, agents, witnesses, or claimants to compile information. Calculate benefit payments and approve payment of claims within a certain monetary limit.
On the job, they would:

Examine claims forms and other records to determine insurance coverage.

Investigate and assess damage to property and create or review property damage estimates.

Interview or correspond with claimants, witnesses, police, physicians, or other relevant parties to determine claim settlement, denial, or review.
Insurance Appraisers, Auto Damage
Appraise automobile or other vehicle damage to determine repair costs for insurance claim settlement. Prepare insurance forms to indicate repair cost or cost estimates and recommendations. May seek agreement with automotive repair shop on repair costs.
On the job, they would:

Estimate parts and labor to repair damage, using standard automotive labor and parts cost manuals and knowledge of automotive repair.

Review repair cost estimates with automobile repair shop to secure agreement on cost of repairs.

Examine damaged vehicle to determine extent of structural, body, mechanical, electrical, or interior damage.
Insurance Claims Clerks
They obtain information from insured or designated persons for purpose of settling claim with insurance carrier.
On the job, they would:

Review insurance policy to determine coverage.

Prepare insurance claim forms or related documents and review them for completeness.

Provide customer service, such as limited instructions on proceeding with claims or referrals to auto repair facilities or local contractors.
Insurance Policy Processing Clerks
They process applications for, changes to, reinstatement of, and cancellation of insurance policies. Duties include reviewing insurance applications to ensure that all questions have been answered, compiling data on insurance policy changes, changing policy records to conform to insured party's specifications, compiling data on lapsed insurance policies to determine automatic reinstatement according to company policies, canceling insurance policies as requested by agents, and verifying the accuracy of insurance company records.
On the job, they would:

Insurance Sales Agents
They sell life, property, casualty, health, automotive, or other types of insurance. May refer clients to independent brokers, work as an independent broker, or be employed by an insurance company.
On the job, they would:

Sell various types of insurance policies to businesses and individuals on behalf of insurance companies, including automobile, fire, life, property, medical and dental insurance or specialized policies such as marine, farm/crop, and medical malpractice.

Interview prospective clients to obtain data about their financial resources and needs, the physical condition of the person or property to be insured, and to discuss any existing coverage.

Call on policyholders to deliver and explain policy, to analyze insurance program and suggest additions or changes, or to change beneficiaries.
