An Art & Design graduate can do almost anything involving creativity. This includes advertising, photography, animation & illustration, interior design, film & media, fashion and jewellery. Artists can look forward to setting up their own studios or work with museums, galleries, schools, advertising agencies, magazines, newspapers, and even software publishers. There are four most popular fields of scpecialization in Art & Design:

Art Directors: Art directors develop design concepts for media pieces and oversee the entire creation and production process.

Craft Artists: Craft artists hand-make objects, such as candles, tapestries, quilts, and pottery, to be sold or shown.

Fine Artists: Fine artists create items such as paintings, sculpture, and illustrations that are often displayed in museums and galleries.

Multimedia Artists: Multimedia artists and animators create images for film, video, the web, and other forms of electronic media.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Art director
develops design concepts for media pieces and oversees the entire creation and production process responsible for overall advertising concept, artistic design and quality of advertisements and print materials, the filming of television commercials.
decides on which photographers, illustrators, models, and props needed to produce an d supervises the creative team to produce a rough layout of an ad, refine it, and put it together on the computer presents ad to client and justifies design concept
besides the creative team, also works with the copywriter, media houses, printers, filming crew and others to produce a piece of creative work.
Illustrator
artists who create art work in a variety of styles using various media to meet a client's needs. It is common for most illustrators to use computers to produce their work determines style, technique, and medium best suited for a particular design product
brainstorms for ideas with the rest of the team to formulate design concept works with printers to ensure the quality of the final product must be open to receiving feedback and criticism besides working for agencies or design houses, many illustrators also work freelance.
Advertising Photographer
works with an agency or art director to provide the images needed for an advertisement (for proposed magazine or newspaper page) needs to have technical and artistic skills to take good photographs as required by client, agency or art director
sometimes responsible for hiring models, finding locations for the photography session or helping to design sets
needs to coordinate lighting, props, costumes, etc.
Desktop Publisher
creates marketing material using computer graphics software works with print vendors to negotiate rates and oversee quality of printed products operates desktop publishing software to design, lay out, and produce copy edits graphics and photos responsible for layout and takes into consideration design instructions to determine work to be done collaborates with graphic artists, editors and writers to produce material according to design specifications transmits final artwork to printer for production.
Advertising Manager
responsible for creating publicity for the goods and/or services of a company collaborates with the marketing director or sales director to ensure that the advertising efforts are in line with the company's target audience and marketing goals
needs to well-versed with different media and the suitability of each medium for a particular product negotiates for rates and ad space with various media keeps track of advertising budget oversees promotional campaigns works with creative team to design ads and themes for campaigns evaluates effectiveness of promotional campaigns and makes changes if necessary.
Graphic Designer
uses a mix of creative skills to meet the visual communication needs of clients uses knowledge of type, colour, layout and methods of reproduction to create overall layout and production design of magazines, newspapers, journals, corporate reports, and other publications develops logos, promotional displays, packaging, and marketing brochures for products and services
develops material for Internet web pages and multimedia projects work and collaborate with printers, copywriters, photographers, other designers, account executives, website designers and marketing specialists.
Web Page Designer
responsible for designing the graphics and overall layout of a website contributes in the planning of a website, meets with clients to discuss ideas for the layout and organisation of the website uses HTML (hypertext markup language) and HTML extensions to create web pages combines knowledge of various software, FTP (file transfer protocol) and graphic design skills to create web pages uses Javascript to create web pages that are compatible with a wide range of hardware and software submits client-approved web pages to all major search engines.
Multimedia Designer
uses their knowledge and experience of design and technology to create information and communication technology (ICT) products such as DVDs, CD-ROMs and websites creates computer games, training materials, advertising and marketing material and databases combines knowledge of graphic design, video-editing and animation to create computer based movies and presentations uses software programs such as Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Flash 3D Animator, Macromedia Flash, Director and Fireworks, Adobe Image Ready, etc. collaborates with writers, animators, sound engineers and programmers.
Copywriter
creates the text for advertisements, promotional brochures and other materials produced by advertising or public relations companies writes the text for printed ads as well as radio and television commercials researches, organises and writes text for flyers, billboards, slogans, taglines, jingle lyrics, Internet content, press releases and catalogues meets clients to understand their advertising campaign and produces copy ideas for the materials used in the campaign works closely with the creative team and advertising manager.
Fashion Designer
creates new fashion styles for dresses, suits, shoes, and other clothing and accessories develop apparel for men, women and children, as well as sportswear, intimate wear, maternity wear, etc. studies fashion trends and creates new styles or modifies old styles sketches designs of clothing and accessories uses knowledge of colours, fabrics and other materials to design clothing and accessories oversees the final production of designs may work alone or with a team of designers meets buyers and clientele to understand their product requirements involved in sourcing, selecting and buying fabrics, trims, fastenings and embellishments

Interior Designer
works with architects, builders and contractors in the design and construction of a building uses their creativity to make a space aesthetically pleasing and functional according to the client’s needs plans and designs the interior furnishing of residential, commercial, or industrial buildings sources for suitable material, calculates its cost and presents design and quotation to client for approval provides consultation on interior design factors such as space planning, layout, furnishings and equipment, and colour coordination selects and purchases furnishings, art work, and other items works with various teams of subcontractors who fabricate and install carpeting, fixtures, accessories, draperies, wall coverings, furniture, and other items.
Product/Industrial designer
uses their skills in creative design, craft and engineering to design and shape products for a variety of applications works in teams to design, model, test and produce prototypes of new products, or improved versions of existing products uses their design skills and technical knowledge to lower the production cost of existing products uses their understanding of technology, production methods and materials, and market trends to improve the efficacy and aesthetic value of existing products works closely with engineers, model makers and sales and marketing staff.
